ArcViz

ArcViz Release 4.1.0.0 includes the following new features and improvements:

Home Page

When you click What's New in Arcadia Instant 4.1, you can see a brief introduction to the key new features of this release.

See our Home Page article for more details.

Connectivity

Locale Settings
Starting with this release, Arcadia Instant supports CSV download from visuals in German locale.

Data Modeling

Canadian Geo Types
Starting with this release, we are supporting the Province and Postal Code (or FSA) Geo Type for Canadian geographies.
Geo Typing at the Dataset

This release enables you to cast fields as Geo Types at the level of the dataset.

See Specifying Geographic Fields.

Switching to a New Table for an Existing Dataset

Starting with this release, you can change the main table of the Dataset. This is accomplished by navigating to the Data Model tab of the dataset, clicking on the table name, and choosing the new table in the Table Browser window modal.

We designed this feature to ease migration from development to production environments.

Visualizations

This release introduces a number of new visual types: Gauge, Bullet, Word Cloud, and Box Plot. We also enhanced the functionality of many of our existing visuals types, such as Rich Text, Maps, or Interactive Maps.

Across the visual type catalog, this release standardizes the a

Gauge Visual

We introduce this visual type to

See Gauge Visuals. For customization options, see Gauge Settings.

Bullet Visual

We introduce this visual type to

See Bullet Visuals. For customization options, see Bullet Settings.

Word Cloud Visual

We introduce this visual type to

See Word Cloud Visuals. For customization options, see Word Cloud Settings.

Box Plot Visual

We introduce this visual type to

See Box Plot Visuals. For customization options, see Bullet Settings.

Rich Text Visual

There are several important improvements to the Rich Text Editor, including more one-click formatting options, embedding of videos, and the code view and edit options.

See Rich Text Visuals.

Map Visual

Map visuals now support Canadian maps. Choropleths may be plotted for Provincial/Territory aggregates, and on the basis of the first 3 digits of the postal code (FSA). Aggregations may be plotted as bubbles for Province/Territory, Postal Code, and Latitude/Longitute. For examples, see the following articles:

To create Canadian geographic visuals, you must specify the correct maps. See Map View.
Interactive Map Visual

In this release, we added a Color shelf to this visual type to support the display of multiple dimensions or multiple measures in the Circle Layer. We also simplified the settings options.

See the following articles:

We also enhanced our support for visuals by adding these features:

Labelling Visual Types
Bars, Lines, Areas, Grouped Bars, Gauge and Bullet visuals include a Labels shelf, for displaying measurements over the relevant parts of the visual. For an example on how to use the Label shelf, see Labelled Bars.
Sharing Visuals by Downloading them as PNG or PDF Files
In addition to CSV download of data in visuals, this release of Arcadia Instant lets users to download both dashboards and visuals in PNG and PDF format. This feature is available in the supplemental menu.
See Downloading Visuals as PNG Files and Downloading Visuals as PDF Files.
Specifying Locale for CSV Downloads
Release 4.1.0.0 of Arcadia Instant enables you to specify a locale for CSV file downloads, overriding the default system and browser settings. See Setting the Locale for CSV Downloads.
Consistent Visual Trellising
Arcadia Instant now offers a more powerful approach to multi-measure analysis by expanding the trellising feature to more visual types.
Showing or Hiding Trellis Borders
Starting in this release, the borders between the sections of trellised visuals may be turned on or off. See Showing Trellis Borders.
Adding Fields to Shelves by Clicking
Starting with this release, we simplified the construction of visuals. You can add multiple fields to and active shelf simply by clicking; drag-and-drop when switching shelves. See Shelves.

Analytics

Trellising on Measures
Starting with this release, Arcadia Instant supports trellises on measures. This functionality is built into Bar Charts, Grouped Bar Charts, Line Charts, and Area Charts. See Trellis on Measures.
Approximate Distinct Count
In this release, we significantly improved the precision of this aggregate function on Arcadia connections. See Approx Distinct Count and NDVP().

Data Discovery

Drill Through
The Drill Through approach links the click on a specified element of the visual to a completely different visual. It also forwards the selected filter values to the target visual, so it can display the details of interest. See Drill Through Data Discovery to learn how to use it.
Drill Down / Drill Up
This model of data discovery is a new name for an existing concept: navigating through visuals at successfully higher or lower levels of granularity, as defined by a dimension hierarchy. See our article on Drill Down and Drill Up Data Discovery.
Drill Into

The Drill Into feature exposes more granular details for a specific element of the visual, such as individual bars, or a specific point on a line. This enables you to view the subset of the data along a different dimension of the dataset.

Bars, Areas, Lines, and Grouped Bars visual types have the Drill Into functionality, described in Drill Into Data Discovery.

To use the Drill feature, you must first Enable Drill Into Behavior. To limit the available dimensions, restrict them by placing the allowed dimensions on the Drill shelf of the visual, as described in Limiting Drill Into Options.

Filter All
Filter All enables one visual in a dashboard to control the appearance of other visuals in the same dashboard. Clicking on a specific element of the source visual sends filter parameters to the target visuals. Filter All works on all visual types. See Filter All Data Discovery.

ArcViz Performance

Improved Memory Utilization
We improved RAM release throughout Arcadia Instant, especially when switching between apps in an appgroup.
Cached Metadata
Starting with this release, the browser caches ArcViz metadata, which significantly improves the rendering and refresh of visuals and dashboards.
Optimized Javascript Initiation
In this release, ArcViz optimizes Javascript initiation; this results in an average improvement of 0.5 seconds when rendering visuals.
